Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

Q: What are the office hours for the Child Care Resource Center?

A: The Child Care Resource Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at all locations.  Extended hours are on Monday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at both the San Fernando and Antelope Valley offices.

Child Care Services

Q: Is there any low-cost child care available in my area?

A: We have listings of state preschools, Head Start and many other child care programs.  Most of these programs are free or low-cost based on family size and income.  These particular programs are age-specific and have individual requirements that must be met when families are enrolled.  Begin your online search for child care or call CCRC's Resource & Referral Department at (818) 717-1000.

Q: How do I know if a child care provider I am interested in has had any complaints?

A: A state law, known as Oliver's Law, requires licensed child care facilities to keep complaint information on file.  Child care providers must present this information to a parent when asked.  This gives the parent and the child care provider an opportunity to discuss sensitive issues including any changes that have been made in response to a complaint.  This process also gives the child care provider a chance to tell their side of the story.

Q: How do I become a licensed child care provider?

A: Attending an orientation given by Community Care Licensing (CCL) is the first step in the process of becoming a licensed child care provider.  CCL will inform you, step by step, about the process and what is required of potential providers.  For a copy of the current fee schedule and other information, visit the Child Care Licensing website or call them at (310) 337-4333 or (323) 981-3350.

Q: What does the Head Start program offer?

A:  Child Care Resource Center's Head Start program offers preschool for 3 and 4 year old children as well as services for mental health, nutrition, disabilities, health, parent involvement and education.

Q: How do I know if Head Start is available where I live?

A: CCRC's Head Start service area includes the communities of Van Nuys, Encino, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana, Canoga Park, Sun Valley, Reseda, Pacoima, Northridge, Sepulveda, Granada Hills, and Arleta.  Children who live outside of these communities are still eligible if parents work or attend school in the area, have child care in the area, or if a CCRC Head Start location is the nearest preschool to their home.

Q: What are the eligibility requirements for Head Start?

A: To be eligible for CCRC's Head Start program, families must qualify under the Federal Income Poverty guidelines.  Income requirements may be waived due to special circumstance or disability but must not exceed a specific amount.  For more information on how to qualify for Head Start, click here.

Paying for Child Care

Q: My child care provider is charging me a co-payment every week because CCRC is not covering the entire fee for my child care - do I have to pay the provider?

A: You are enrolled in a child care financial assistance, or subsidy, program which has limitations.  There is a maximum amount that the County and the State allows us to pay.  If the provider is receiving a partial payment, the parent is responsible for any charges above the amount the County and State permit CCRC to reimburse.

Q: I am a parent and my family fees are due on the first of the month, however I am not able to make payment on time for this period. What do I do?

A: Contact your Case Specialist as you may be eligible to arrange a payment plan agreement.  Your Case Specialist will explain the process and assist you with any questions.

Q: I am a child care provider and received an Approval Provider Notification for child care services.  I think the hours are incorrect because the hours I am providing care for the approved children is more than the approved hours.  What do I do?

A: The child care schedule is approved by the Case Specialist.  Ask the parent to contact their Case Specialist to review the schedule and revise if necessary.  You will only be paid for the approved hours specified on the Approval Provider Notification.

Q: Can CCRC provide me with a copy of the Regional Market Rates?

A: CCRC does not provide copies of the Regional Market Rates (RMR).  If you would like to get a copy of the RMR, visit the California Department of Education's website.  If you would like a written copy, please send your request to the following address:
