Increased Licensed, Quality Child Care

How does the Child Care Initiative Program work?

The California Child Care Initiative Project (CCIP) is designed to increase the quantity of licensed, quality child care available to the public.  The program was developed by the Bank of America Foundation and funded by a statewide and local public-private partnership. CCIP recruits and trains family child care providers to help meet the demand for child care services.

CCIP works through existing nonprofit resource and referral agencies (R&Rs). To date, the project has raised over $10 million dollars in funding from the public and private sectors, including an annual commitment of up to $250,000 in matching funds from the State of California. CCIP is one of the largest public-private partnerships in the country.

The program funds and supports projects that increase the supply of child care for non-English speaking families.  Many of the CCIP project sites recruit and train providers who speak a wide variety of languages, including Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Russian, Hmong, and Farsi.  Participants in the CCIP program commit to a series of training sessions and receive free support and assistance.
