We are thankful to receive guidance, oversight and support from our talented and diverse Board of Directors.  Whether helping the agency meet a new challenge or celebrate success, the continued encouragement from each of CCRC’s board members has enabled us to strengthen our community and enhance the future of children in Northern Los Angeles County.

What is the responsibility of CCRC’s Board of Directors?
Every nonprofit Board of Directors is unique, as every organization is unique. However, there are certain general responsibilities that are common to most successful boards.  Meet our current Board of Directors.

Sets the Mission and Vision of the Organization

  • The Board is responsible for creating the organization's mission and purpose statements and reviewing them periodically to be sure they fit well with the direction of the organization's growth.
  • The mission statement explains why the organization exists and who it exists to serve; the vision articulates a picture of the future that the organization hopes to create.

Creates a Strategic Vision for the Organization

  • The Board is responsible for working with leadership and staff to create a strategy for the growth of the organization – including resources, staffing, programs, and other aspects of organizational development.
  • The Board takes a broad perspective on projects and programs being sure that the work of the organization is consistent with its mission and vision.

Ensures Fiduciary Responsibility

  • “Fiduciary Responsibility” entrusts board members to use the finances of the organization wisely and for intended funding purposes.
  • The Board reviews and approves the annual budget and checks income statements and expenses against the Board-approved budget at monthly meetings.

Recruits, Trains and Evaluates Board Members

  • The Board is responsible for its own growth and development, finding committed individuals to serve on the Board, and making sure that the final Board composition is balanced and appropriate.
  • Board Members are also responsible for conducting self-evaluation to ensure they are adequately carrying out their intended leadership role.

  Builds Strong Public Standing – Serves as Ambassadors

  • The Board is the public face of the organization. Board members promote the mission, vision and programs of the organization providing positive representation to constituents, the media, and the general public.

Manages Resources Effectively

  • The Board ensures the organization has adequate resources to complete the mission and checks to see that they are used efficiently.

Maintains Integrity and Accountability

  • The Board is ultimately responsible for legal and ethical practices through the creation of clear and effective by-laws, staff policies, evaluation methods and grievance procedures.
